Kreis Gütersloh: playgroup funding will end on 1 August 2027
The Gütersloh district committee has upheld the decision to end public funding for playgroups. It affects services in the ten municipalities covered by the district youth welfare office and does not automatically mean that every group will close.

Who is affected
The funding concerns playgroups in the area served by the Gütersloh district youth welfare office. The cities of Gütersloh, Rheda-Wiedenbrück and Verl have their own youth welfare offices and had already ended this type of funding.
What may change for families
After 1 August 2027, some groups may continue privately, change their parent fees or, if they meet the requirements, convert places into registered childminding. Continuation is not guaranteed, so parents should ask their specific provider well in advance.
Important
A playgroup does not fulfil the legal entitlement to a childcare place. The decision concerns district funding and does not remove the legal entitlement to nursery or registered childminding.
