Proof of your social insurance number is free: check your personal data
Deutsche Rentenversicherung has reminded insured people that the document confirming their insurance number (Versicherungsnummernachweis) is issued free of charge. The guidance applies throughout Germany, including to people starting vocational training or needing a replacement document.

Who receives the document and when it is free
People starting vocational training after leaving school generally receive the document automatically and free of charge. Anyone who needs it is entitled to receive it without a fee. A replacement is also free if the document has been lost, damaged or has become unusable.
Where to request it
The document can be requested through Deutsche Rentenversicherung's online services or from the responsible health insurer. Some private companies forward applications for a fee, but they are not public authorities; the official route does not require a fee.
Which details to check
Check your given names, family name, birth name, date of birth and the responsible pension insurance institution. Correct details allow contributions to be allocated properly to your insurance account. If you find an error, request a correction from the responsible pension insurance institution and provide the required supporting documents.
